Today’s Acton Minutemen are made up of men, women, and children, ages 5 through 85. We strive to bring history to life by portraying those brave Patriots of the American Revolution from Acton who risked, and even gave, their lives on April 19th, 1775 in the cause for freedom.
We live all over – not just in Acton!
The modern company of the Acton Minutemen is a non-profit organization that was chartered in 1963. Our officers and members come from a variety of different backgrounds and areas. We have members on the North Shore, the South Shore, western Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire, and even other parts of the country. We are made up of schoolteachers, students, carpenters, business people, parents, grandparents, coaches, retirees, and people from many other walks of life.
We are not affiliated with any religious or political group or persuasion, and we absolutely do not promote or tolerate any kind of paramilitary or activist behavior. We are a group of individuals bound by a love of history and camaraderie, yet we are not all historians.
You don’t need to participate in every event to have fun!
The Acton Minutemen are common townspeople like you, who enjoy representing the town of Acton in parades, battle reenactments, and civic events, either locally or in other towns and states. Some of us are second generation members, some are long-standing original members since the modern company was chartered in 1963, and some of us just joined recently. We have members in grade school, high school, and even kindergarten. We have working people and retired people. We come in all shapes and sizes, all political persuasions, and are made up of both men and women. It’s important to note that we have members who participate in only one event a year, and that’s fine – we’re happy to have them! The important thing for us is that everyone be comfortable with their level of participation in events. There are no requirements.
We welcome anyone with an interest in what we do!
